Kaikoura Museum

price$6-$12 (NZD)

Kaikoura Museum is a state of the art Museum experience showcasing Kaikoura’s diverse and colourful natural, social and cultural history. Our collections take account of the geological and natural history of the district (including some impressive dinosaur fossils), Taonga Maori, early colonial life, whaling, fishing, surfing and a large collection of Marine specimens.

Our award winning Museum offers a modern and relaxed environment with a contemporary and fun approach to telling the stories of Kaikoura’s natural, social and cultural journey. We also house the district’s Archives and family histories.

New Normal - The Kaikoura Earthquake Exhibition is a long-term exhibition that looks at the impacts of the Kaikoura earthquake on our community, our landscape and our natural environment. It also includes over 30 individual ‘mini exhibitions’ contributed by the Kaikoura’ Community which help tell the many stories that have unfolded since this historic event.
Kaikoura Museum regularly presents special events and exhibitions, please keep an eye on their website.
